Diabetics Need to Drink More – Water!

Yes, I know. Diabetics hear this all the time. Whether you are a Diabetic or not, most doctors and health care providers say this a lot. But the truth is – you have to!  Understanding whether you are thirsty or not, you need to drink lots of water each day as it has many health benefits which may include:

  • You are flushing toxins
  • You may be losing a few extra pounds
  • You may feel full faster and eat less
  • When you are exercising, you are helping your body to replace fluids that you are losing

I am sure that it is no surprise to you.  Every book you read, every doctor you talk to will give you advice to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water per day. This will be up to you to decide how much your body needs.  Each person is different and requires different amounts of fluids each day. If you are drinking too much water, you may feel bloated. But by keeping sufficiently hydrated for your own body or system will help you to keep it functioning at an optimum level. You may even lose a few pounds and feel more comfortable within yourself.

Water is an amazing tool that you can use to improve your health. Of course herbal tea and light soups also count in your water count. Of course all sugary drinks, sugar filled soft drinks and fruit juices are off limits as they contain too much sugar whether artificial or just pure sugar.

You may think that drinking enough water each day is a “no brainer”. However, I have listed a few tips that may help you with this challenge:

  • Record a reminder in your phone or in your day timer to drink a glass of water every couple of hours
  • Fill a large thermos or jug and set in on your kitchen counter or on your desk as a reminder to finish it by the end of the day
  • Keep a tracker with the amount of water and other foods that you consume each day

If after these tips you are still struggling with drinking water each day:

– Add some lemon slices or lemon juice, (MY FAVORITE), cucumber slices, lime slices, freshly grated ginger root or even some mint leaves

MY PERSONAL FAVORITE:  Drink with a straw:  You will be amazed at how quickly a glass of water disappears.
